Holyrood Tartan

The Holyrood tartan was created in 1977, the year of the of the Queen's Silver Jubilee. The design, which is based on the Royal Stewart tartan, features a distinctive mix of colours, including navy, brown, khaki green, light blue, gold and white. The Palace of Holyroodhouse was the residence of many Scottish Kings and Queens. Mary Queen of Scots, the most famous resident, married both of her Scottish husbands at Holyrood and witnessed the slaying of David Rizzio, her secretary within her apartments at the palace.
