The Jacobite tartan is said to have been in use since the time of the 1715 uprising. The design features yellow, red, green, white and navy blue. The Jacobites were supporters of the Stuart royal family who wanted to restore them to the British throne after their removal in 1688. They staged several uprisings—particularly in Scotland—fuelled by political loyalty, religious conviction, and resistance to the ruling government. Many of their strongest backers came from the Scottish Highlands, where clan allegiance and distrust of central authority ran deep. For Highlanders, the cause was not just dynastic—it was bound up with identity, tradition, and the defence of a way of life.
