The colours of the Banff and Buchan tartan are taken from the landscape of this picturesque and historic part of North East Scotland: the blues of the sea and sky; with touches of white. The yellow overcheck represents the golden fields of ripening barley which are malted to create some of the worlds finest whiskies. The fabric is woven in Keith, Moray—a town with a long history of fabric weaving, firmly rooted in Scotland’s textile traditions.
Towns and villages in Banff and Buchan include: Buckie, Portessie, Findochty, Portknockie, Cullen, Sandend, Portsoy, Whitehills, Banff, Macduff, Gardenstown, Crovie, Pennan, Rosehearty, Sandhaven, Fraserburgh, (the Broch), Cairnbulg, Peterhead (the Bloo Toon), Boddam and Cruden Bay.
