Anderson Clan

Anderson Crest: An Oak tree Proper.

Anderson Clan Motto: Stand sure.

Anderson Clan History: The surname Anderson (son of Andrew) is common throughout Scotland and is particularly prevalent in the North East of the country. The surname is first recorded in 1296 when the David le fiz Andreu, burgess of Peebles and Duncan fiz Andreu of Dumfries took an oath of fealty.

In Highland areas the name was commonly spelled MacAndrew (MacAindreis in Gaelic) from the earlier MacGill' Aindreis, meaning son of the servant of St. Andrew.

The Andersons being widely spread throughout the country have no defined clan lands.

A small sept of the MacAndrews originally from Muideart settled in Connage, a village in the parish of Petty, Inverness-shire and were included in the Clan Chattan federation.
