Crichton Castle was built in the late 14th century as the main seat for the Crichton family. The family fell from grace and the Castle and lands were forfeited in 1483, latterly it became home to the Hepburn Earls of Bothwell.
The magnificent Crichton castle sits in hilly countryside overlooking the River Tyne. Unique features include the renaissance decoration arcade of diamond-faceted stonework in the interior courtyard.
