Robert Mackie have ceased making traditional Scottish headwear. Last chance to buy as our remaining stock is very limited.
This top quality plain Glengarry cap comes from Robert Mackie Today they stand as the nation's only genuine manufacturer of individually hand-crafted Glengarry caps. The process of making an authentic Glen involves 38 separate steps, 32 of which are by carried out by hand.
The crown of the cap is knitted, linked, tipped and milled in the finest heavyweight pure wool. The crown is hand-dyed and then pressed into shape on a traditional wooden block. Double stiffened heavyweight hessian is then sewn into the crown to create the characteristic Glengarry hat shape and the crown is pressed again. The interior of the hat is then lined by hand-stitching in a 100% cotton fabric. Grosgrain ribbon tails and trim are machine stitched to the hat, before a third pressing. Finally, a rosette is hand stitched to the side of the cap and the top is then adorned with a wool toorie, or pom-pom.
Beware of the poorly constructed fake Scots bonnets which can found on some competitor websites. Shoddy caps from South Asia really are a false economy, most have cardboard stiffeners that soon fall apart and lose their shape. Our superior Scottish caps are craftsman made in the finest pure new wool fabric combined with heavyweight hessian stiffeners, and when dry-cleaned or gently hand-washed, will last you decades.
Available in black, navy, bottle green, brown, lovat blue, lovat green, maroon, red, royal blue, saxe blue and fawn.
