The New York City tartan (plaid) depicts the colourings of the streets and buildings of the city, with the green section representing central park. The two black lines which are designed in a cross offer a sign of condolence in memory of those who died in the Twin Towers tragedy. The blue section recognises the island of Manhattan surrounded by the Hudson and East rivers.
