County Laois
Laois is part of Leinster province in central Ireland. The county town is Port Laoise, also known by its anglicised name as Maryborough. The attractively sounding Slieve Bloom Mountains form its northwest boundary and agriculture is the predominant industry in this mainly rural county. Laois formed part of the ancient kingdom of Ossory until the 11th century; eventually it fell to English domination and came under the English crown in the sixteenth century. This is an area best known for its sporting attractions including fishing, hunting, and golf.
