County Clare
Situated on the far west coast of Ireland, County Clare is best known for its ancient history and breathtaking scenery. The rockscape around the Neolithic tombs of the Burren (Boireann), conceal many exotic flora and fauna, which lure botanists from around the world. The most impressive of the many ancient Neolithic tombs is Poulnabrone Dolmen.
Steeped in history the Burren also boasts around 500 early medieval ring forts. The 9th century fort at Cahercommaun, situated above a wooded valley, is a magnificent example. The beautiful Cliffs of Moher, look out towards the Aran Islands, a bastion of Gaelic civilisation.
