"Mac" Tartans

It's a common misconception that a Mac surname is Scottish and a Mc surname is Irish. In fact they are one and the same, Mc being an abbreviation of Mac. Both variations are used widely throughout Scotland and in in Gaelic mean "son of".

Our images of authentic Scottish woven tartans from MacAlister to MacThomas are scanned from our own swatch books to provide the most accurate colour representation possible. However, it's often impossible to completely capture the true depth of colour and the texture of any particular tartan over the web. Images of tartan colours can often vary depending on your monitor and graphics card.
