Scottish Thistle Miniature Quaich

Scottish Thistle Miniature Quaich

This miniature quaich is decorated with Scotland's thistle emblem which is encircled with a beautiful Celtic interlace design.

The thistle emblem has been used in Scotland since the reign of Alexander III (1249 - 1286). Legend has it that the thistle was adopted as the national emblem after an invading Norse army attempted a night time raid on a Scots army camp. During this raid one barefoot Viking stood upon a thistle which caused him to shout out in pain, thus alerting the Scottish soldiers, who then defeated the encroaching Norsemen.

The miniature Scottish Thistle quaich would make a perfect gift and small ornament for the home or office.
