This quaich celebrates Scotland’s Warrior King, Robert the Bruce (1274 - 1329), and his fight for an Independent Scotland.
The centre of this stunning quaich is engraved with Bruce’s seal. It depicts Bruce, in armour, broad-sword in one hand, heraldic shield in the other, upon his warhorse which is galloping at full-tilt.
The bowl is inscribed with the famous excerpt from the Declaration of Arbroath, "For as long as a hundred of us remain alive, It is in truth not for glory nor riches nor honours". The underside of the quaich reads, "That we are fighting but for freedom, for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself".
The Declaration of Arbroath is undoubtedly the most important document in Scottish history. The petition was drawn up at Arbroath Abbey on April 6th, 1320, and bore the signatures and seals of the Scottish nobility. The document was conveyed to the pope and urged him to acknowledge the independence of the Scottish nation, and Bruce's right to the throne.
This quaich would make a great gift item for friends, family and colleagues. It’s also perfect as a home or office display piece and makes an ideal toasting vessel for those special occasions.
