Kilt - Traditional Hand Stitched Medium Weight

Our most popular hand stitched luxury kilt Kilt - Traditional Hand Stitched Medium Weight

There are a multitude of companies offering kilts for sale online and not all are good.

Sorting the wheat from the chaff can be a minefield for the average kilt buyer. The internet is awash with websites that are efficient at marketing and hype but have no real experience in kiltmaking. There are also South Asian and more sadly Scottish owned businesses selling poorly made cheap imitations of traditional Highland dress, adding to the problem.

These offerings can look acceptable initially but before long they begin to sag and completely lose their shape.

Our kilt maker is regularly asked to carry out alteration work on factory made kilts that are poorly stitched and pleated. Many are so badly constructed that alteration is impossible.

What makes us different?

We have our own highly qualified kilt maker with over twenty five years experience. Our kilt maker spent five years learning her craft at Aberdeen's premier kilt makers and over the past twenty years she has become renowned for producing kilts of exceptionally quality. Her work can be seen on many of the kilts worn by the men of Lonach.

Our kilts are hand made in time honoured fashion, without compromise, using a minimum of 8 yards medium weight 100% pure new worsted wool which is woven in Scotland.

We don't use the cheap mass-produced kilt straps and buckles found on nearly all kilts. Our superior heavy duty kilt straps and buckles are exclusively made for us by a local saddler in Aberdeenshire. The kilt straps are made from the best quality bridle leather and the buckles are hand cast. These cost us more than the normal straps but the difference in quality speaks for itself - we guarantee they will last a lifetime.

We fit two of our high quality straps with hand cast buckles straps to every kilt we make. The additional seat buckle and strap found on most modern kilts is a hangover from the old military kilts with massive 4” rises. We find this additional kilt strap to be the most common cause of a kilt apron pulling tight and not sitting correctly. It’s totally unnecessary on the civilian kilt with a 2” rise and is best left out.

We also include hand-made matching tartan flashes with garters worth £21.99 with every kilt - no one gives you more value for money!

Your kilt will be hand stitched throughout, with a minimum of twenty nine, and up to thirty five, hand lifted deep pleats. Pleating will normally be to the sett, but can be to the line in the regimental manner, if requested.

The unseen work on a kilt is extremely important but often neglected to cut costs. Our kiltmaker pad stitches heavy canvas by hand along the back of the kilt at the top of the pleats to preventing sagging. Our kilts are all ‘lifted’ by backstitching each pleat by hand along the seat line, further ensuring that the kilt holds its shape over time. This is one of the most labour intensive stages in the construction of a kilt and often missed out completely by inferior kiltmakers.

A kilt of this quality, hand made in the traditional fashion, is labour intensive but the process does create the finest kilt. Our kilts hang well with that classic swing. This kilt will fit perfectly and hold it’s shape throughout it's long life.

The Scottish woven medium weight material is available in a wide range of over 600 tartans, including many of the rarer and ancient varieties. If your tartan is not listed we can have it woven especially for an additional £65.00 ex VAT, lead time 16 weeks.

On ordering your kilt we will email you our easy to follow measurement guide.

This is a bespoke item - allow four to five weeks in addition to our normal delivery times.

Surcharges: Please note that for larger seat sizes of 46 inches and above a supplement of £27.50 applies to all orders.

I have received the two kilts (MacKinnon & Anderson tartans), plus all the other ancillary items. Myself & my colleague are both very pleased with our kilts. Excellent, quality workmanship. My wedding is now in a week's time and having only decided to get married a month and a half ago, I have been busy making arrangements, with many other suppliers for various items. Scots Connection has been far and away the best company I have dealt with. Great communication, very helpful and a pleasure to do business with. Even better, the goods arrived earlier than the stated delivery date. I shall have no hesitation whatsoever, in recommending Scots Connection for what can only be described as a first class service for first class goods.

The kilt is fabulous. Working with Jamie was a pleasure -- my many questions were patiently answered and my son looks terrific in his kilt. The workmanship is exquisite and I am confident that the kilt will be around to be worn by my grandchildren.
