Sgian Dubh - Ancient Bog Oak Celtic Silver

Sgian Dubh - Ancient Bog Oak Celtic Silver

This stylish Skean Dhu has a sleek dark bog oak handle with an Iona silver Celtic insert, cinnamon bog oak trim, a quality stainless steel blade and a bullhorn cap. The quality of this sgian dubh really shines through making it ideal for both day-wear and more formal occasions.

The bog oak used on the handle and trim comes from the Isle of Mull and has been carbon dated to approximately 6000 years old.

Bog oak is formed when fallen trees are buried in peat bogs and preserved from decay by the acidity of the peat bog water. Tannins leached out from the peat mosses darken the wood. The dark bog oak on the handle comes from the outer part of the preserved tree and the light trim is taken from the heart of the log where the peaty water has not fully blackened the wood.

Supplied with a high quality Celtic embossed leather sheath.

Comes complete with an attractive gift box and handwritten note describing the natural materials used in the making of the Sgian Dubh.

Each hand-made Sgian Dubh is unique due to the use of natural materials and may vary slightly from the image shown.

Handmade in Scotland by a highland craftsman.

I really can't thole those plastic Skean Dhu's offered by the kilt shops, so was very happy to find one with a real wooden handle. The fact that the wood is 6000 years old and Scottish makes it all the more special.

Will use again in the future.
