Montgomery Antique Silver Badge

A rare antique silver badge for the Chief of the Clan Montgomery/ Montgomerie. Unmarked, circa 1900.

This badge is without the usual clansman’s strap and buckle and should only be worn by the Clan Chief. The badge is decorated with a foliate circlet and inscribed with the Montgomery chiefs Clan motto, Garde Bien, translating as Guard Well. The central crest for the Clan Montgomery, composed of a lady, proper, vested, dexter supporting an anchor, in sinister a saracen's head, erased, held by the hair, both proper.

A fine example of a substantial late Victorian badge in excellent condition.
